Cavs Fail to Re-Sign JR Smith’s Shirt

The Cleveland Cavaliers had an exciting NBA championship offseason, but lost in the celebration was a rare misstep by Cavs General Manager, David Griffith. He was unable to reach an agreement with JR Smith’s shirt, leading to the Warriors swooping in with a contract signing.

After last year’s championship run, the team resembled a family, with chemistry at an all time high, and there are serious concerns that the absence of JR’s shirt will impact the team’s chances to repeat as champions.

Early indicators that the negotiating process with JR Smith’s shirt was not going well arose as early as the post-Finals trip to Vegas, where the shirt was nowhere to be seen on the team plane. Despite the major role JR’s shirt played in Cleveland’s thrilling, come from behind victory over Golden State, the shirt completely skipped the victory parade.

When asked for comment, Smith stated, “I’m disappointed. I’ve been playing with my shirt for most of my career. When we completed my deal, I thought that the shirt would follow suit, but I guess the asking price was too high. [General Manager David Griffith] says he’s trying to sign Chris Paul’s shirt, so we’ll see what happens. I’m just going to play my game. Shirtless.”

JR’s shirt was previously represented by Rich Paul, LeBron James’s agent, but dropped him mid-season in favor of Klay Thompson’s representation. Said LeBron, “the writing was on the wall. Nobody covered JR as well as his shirt did, so obviously we’re concerned that it went to the Warriors. We’re just going to continue to strive for greatness and we’ll get it done for Ohio. Cleveland against the world! Team skins!”

JR Smith’s shirt made its Golden State debut on Tuesday, collecting a technical foul and a flagrant 2 in limited minutes.
