The NBA weighed in on the final play of Game 2 of the Thunder-Spurs game played Monday night. According to league officials, “the referees missed, like, a six or seven possible fouls on the play, but San Antonio ended up getting an open look at a three and missed it, so it all worked out okay, we guess.”
The report outlined a list of uncalled, possible infractions with the caveat that “it took LaMarcus freakin’ Aldridge making not one but a pair of threes and then baiting [OKC’s Serge] Ibaka into sending him to the line for three more shots,” for the game to come down to the final play, “so give us a break, huh?”

Per the report on the final play: “Manu Ginobili stepped over the line, Dion Waiters hit him with the ball and jumped to throw a pass to Kevin Durant who was probably being grabbed by Danny Green, who threw a pass too far for Patty Mills, who—several passes later—would miss a three that Aldridge couldn’t rebound because he was getting fouled by Ibaka under the basket while Steven Adams was being held by a San Antonio fan in the stands, after he leapt into Mills, who had grabbed him earlier on the play” the report stated, adding, “so, you know, one-point loss, or whatever.”
The report acknowledges that San Antonio fans have some grounds to be upset, before explaining the difficulties of being an NBA referee, especially when “everything goes bonkers like that.”
“No one is especially happy with the results,” the report concludes. “But that was nuts, okay?”
