TORONTO–After the NBA All-Star Weekend Three-Point Contest, Tom McGuire stood before the press corps. He was stark naked except for the smile on his face. His nude body was a monument to years of neglect. His outside shot, however, was not. Mcguire scored 27 of a possible 30 points in the shootout, tying Steph Curry’s 2015 record.

“I like to think I have a lot in common with Curry,” said the man whose naked body resembled two scoops of vanilla ice cream left in the sun for a few minutes. McGuire then dribbled an invisible basketball between his legs for a few moments before losing track of it.

“I’ve worked really hard to get here,” said the middle-aged high school teacher from Evansville, Ind. “Instead of waiting for the carpool in the lounge like everyone else, I spent 15 to 20 minutes, every single day, working on triples.”

McGuire then pantomimed his clumsy jump-shot technique, made a long whistling noise, then an exaggerated explosion noise. “You don’t get to where I am without an hour or two of commitment every week for 25 years,” he said.
